How To Stay Focused When Studying

When studying, many find it hard to work for a long period of time as they can easily get distracted. Most of the time, this is because they're not interested in what they're doing. Though when you have to get it done, you don't really have a choice but to pull through. Hopefully, these easy tips will help make your studying time more efficient and bareable.

Tip 1: Food and Drinks

One of the most common reasons people get distracted is because they get hungry or thirsty. Keep a small snack that you can have while working, so in this case, chips may not be the best option considering crumbs and grease. Plus, always have water, tea, coffee, etc. in a closed mug or bottle to avoid spilling.

Tip 2: Lighting

Light can make a huge difference in your focus. Make sure your workspace has plenty of natural lighting. When working in the day I make sure to leave my entire window open, but at night I prefer to work in the dark with one desk light. This helps me direct focus straight to my work (and makes me feel like a really cool surgeon).

Tip 3: Music

This one requires some experimention. I personally can't work in silence so I'm either listening to music, Ted-talks, audiobooks, or the news. Though I realized that music can sometimes come off as distracting, so I recommend listening to one song on repeat. This way your less likely to be singing and humming along.

Tip 4: Location

This should be your last option because I find that changing locations a lot can get quite distracting, but if nothing works, change up your workspace. Coffeeshops, libraries, even just a different room in your house, can end up being somewhere you feel more focused.
